The surface must not be larger than 25 sq.m.
The problem I had with the first model from the 'Fold in architecture' day was that the shapes did not provide enough displaying space for pictures. The space was already small and dividing it more with panels seem not such a good idea. Also, even though the footprint would have definitely been more than 25 sq m, there was no space for exhibiting the type of art chosen. So I had to develop the idea mainly in this direction. The actual space has less than 23 sq.m and provides suitable spaces for a photography exhibition. • What equipment is needed?
No special equipment needed • How much storage is required, if any? The photographs will be placed on the walls. No storage is required in the pavilion • Is there a need for security/securing the facility? No, it is not- considering that it is a short term exhibition. • Not much comfort is necessary for short term-inhabitation • What can be seen from the site? From city centre: the house-like facade From the garden: something reminding of a barn From Parkside: the whole exhibition. • From where can the site be seen? Alley, garden, the inside space of the Parkside bulding Considering the theme of the work exposed:
- the space will provide intimacy; - light:
- it looks like a farm building from the end of the alley coming from city centre, but it is in fact deconstructed; - no clue of the interior from outside; - the pictures will be arranged on the largest wall (S) but not in the usual way, in a row, but like in the Paris Salon, in a relatively chaotic way: - for enclosing the area for protection of work: a wall added to the east ( right hand side of the last picture above, see bellow);
- for protection against winds: the building has been mirrored; - for the entrance: the un-enclosed area facing the glass wall of the Parkside building (-> more suspense also); - the building will be raised from the ground level; - people will be guided inside by a ramp (also providing easy access for the ones in wheelchairs) visible from the alley; - the inside of the pavilion will be protected by the Parkside building. The starting point is the first model unfolded. Slightly changing the dimensions of the initial plan resulted 4 very different shapes. The next decision was developing the house-like model.
